Bacho Akhalaya, former head of Georgian MIA, found guilty in "Navtlug" case

In the "Navtlug" case, the Tbilisi City Court has announced the verdict of guilty against Bacho Akhalaya, the former head of the Corrections Department of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, the former Minister of Defence and the former Minister of Internal Affairs. Bacho Akhalaya has been sentenced to seven years and six months of imprisonment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the "Navtlug" case, the prisoners' dock contained Bacho Akhalaya, his brother Data Akhalaya, who served as the head of the Department of Constitutional Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), and Revaz Charbadze, the former head of the prisoner convoy service. Bacho Akhalaya was charged with torture and abuse of power.

The verdict of guilty against Bacho Akhalaya was reported by the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel.

On the eve of the announcement of the verdict, Ani Nadareishvili, the wife of Bacho Akhalaya, has stated she does not believe in the verdict of acquittal. According to Ani Nadareishvili, during the judicial investigation, prosecutors put pressure on witnesses, the agency "News-Georgia" reports.

At the court hearing held on October 6, Bacho Akhalaya himself has also stated he does not hope for a fair trial.
