Human Rights House Foundation: Azerbaijani rights defender Emin Guseinov is under threat of arrest

In Azerbaijan, the human rights activist Emin Guseinov can be arrested at any time, and he urgently needs protection, the international human rights organization Human Rights House Foundation has reported today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 6, at the demand of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Azerbaijan, the bank accounts of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS), headed by Emin Guseinov, were arrested. Besides, on August 8, in Baku, law enforcers appeared with a search warrant at the IRFS office in Rashid Bekhbudov Street.

On August 8, the court obliged Emin Guseinov to appear at the GPO; thus, he can be arrested any time, the Foundation has emphasized.

It has urged the international community to "urgently respond to the rapidly deteriorating situation in Azerbaijan."

"The absence of effective action by the international community can lead to the fact that repressions against the independent human rights community in the country will continue for several weeks more. The Council of Europe and its members should not take this execution in silence," - said Maria Dahle, the executive director of the Human Rights House Foundation.
