Leyla Yunus calls to put a number of Azerbaijani officials into analogue of "Magnitsky List"

Today, the Azerbaijan Centre for Resisting Repressions at the Institute of Peace and Democracy (IPD) has moved an initiative to the international community to impose sanctions on the Azeri officials who violate human rights. As stated by Leyla Yunus, the Director of the IPD, the list similar to the "Magnitsky List" should include six judges.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to the IPD, as on June 12 Azerbaijan had 130 victims of political repressions; 40 of them are "prisoners of conscience" and the remaining 90 – political prisoners.

Leyla Yunus offered the above sanctions today during a press conference in Baku, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"One of real chances to stop the wave of repressions in the authoritarian Azerbaijan is the imposition of severe sanctions on the officials who severely violate the law and Azerbaijan's commitments to international organizations," said Leyla Yunus.

She offered first of all to impose sanctions on the judges, "who pass sentences on politically motivated and fabricated criminal cases."
