Advocate of Azerbaijani activist Bashir Suleimanli states violations of his client's rights in SIZO
At SIZO (pre-trial prison) No. 1 in Baku, Bashir Suleimanli, the executive director of the Centre for Election Monitoring and Democracy Training (CEM&DT), is not allowed to meet his relatives, his advocate Fariz Namazly told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. In its turn, the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan has refuted this information.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 26, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Anar Mamedli, the head of the CEM&DT, and two other activists – the above Bashir Suleimanli and Elnur Mamedov – to 5.5 and 3.5 years of real and 3.5 years of conditional imprisonment, respectively.
Fariz Namazly told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that after Suleimanli's detention in the courtroom on May 26 he was only once allowed to meet his relatives.
"It happened five days after his detention: Bashir was allowed to talk to his relatives through a glass partition. Later, no meetings were allowed," said the lawyer.
According to his story, he raised the issue before the top managers of the Baku SIZO.
