Court stops case against ex-Chief Architect of Sochi
Today, in Sochi, the court has pronounced the resolution to stop the proceedings in the case against Oleg Sheveiko, ex-Chief Architect, who was accused of negligence, in connection with the expiry of period for prosecution.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 25, 2013, the Central District Court of Sochi found Oleg Sheveiko guilty of abuse of office and sentenced him to one year and eight months of imprisonment in a penal colony of settlement. Starting from September 15, 2013, Oleg Sheveiko is serving his sentence in the Novorossiysk penal colony of settlement.
The criminal case of negligence against Oleg Sheveiko was sent to the Court on May 30. The case was initiated in November 2013.
"He has filed a motion to close the case because of the expiry of period for prosecution when he might be brought to justice. The Court has granted the motion and closed the case in pursuant to Part 1 of Paragraph 3 of Article 24 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation (expiry of period for prosecution), since it is the defendant's right. At the stage of investigation, Oleg Sheveiko did not plead guilty. However, he filed a motion to close the case, and this is not an exculpatory fact," stated an official of the Central District Court.
Judge Vadim Orekhov has confirmed to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent the information about the closure of the criminal case.
