California recognizes independence of NKR

The US State of California has adopted a resolution in support of the efforts of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) to develop as a free and independent nation. This is the fifth US state to recognize the independence of the NKR.

"…Resolved by the Assembly and the Senate of the State of California, jointly, that the Legislature of California hereby encourages and supports the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic's continuing efforts to develop as a free and independent nation in order to guarantee its citizens those rights inherent in a free and independent society," says the above parliamentary resolution.

The Parliament of California has urged the US President and Congress "to support the self-determination and democratic independence of the NKR," the document continues.

The resolution was supported by 70 California's MPs with one abstained, The "News.am" reports.

In its turn, Azerbaijan has stated that the document has no legal and political force and has a provocative character.
