In Volgograd Region, problem of waste disposal remains acute, ecologists report
According to ecologists, the Volgograd Region still fails to establish a system to treat and recycle household waste. The ecologists pay attention to the places of temporary waste disposal, which are located in the territory of the natural parks.
Thus, a place of temporary waste disposal is located in the territory of the natural park "Volga-Akhtuba Floodplain", one kilometre from the village of Frunze (the farm yard of Zakutsky), in close proximity to the road and the cemetery.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2013, overflowing dump pile had been repeatedly burned. Wind carried garbage to the surrounding fields. On April 13, 2014, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent re-examined the place. Most of the waste was brought away to the landfill. However, last year, the situation repeated. Bushes and trees in the nearby forest were covered with plastic bags and paper from the dump pile.
Elena Vasilieva, Director of Information Centre "Volgograd-Express", has reported that the combustion of household waste contributes to the risk of chemical contamination of vast territories. Elena Vasilieva claims that at present, no landfill in the Volgograd Region complies with the regulatory maintained technology for waste storage.
