European Parliament supports ban on entry into EU of "Magnitsky List" officials, including two from Chechnya

On December 11, European MPs approved a resolution calling to prohibit entry into the territory of the European Union (EU) for the Russian officials, put on the so-called "Magnitsky List", including two natives of Chechnya – Lecha Bogatyryov and Kazbek Dukuzov.

The current resolution is the fourth call to the EU Council to impose targeted sanctions against the officials involved, according to the European Parliament, in the torture and death of a Russian lawyer Sergey Magnitsky and other high-profile crimes. Earlier, the EU Council had left this recommendation unattended, the Voice of America reports.

Let us remind you that according to The New York Times, the USA have compiled an expended secret "Magnitsky List", which includes, in particular, the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov. On December 11, the US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul announced that the US authorities intended to address the issue of official expansion of the list by the end of the year, RIA Novosti reports.
