Georgian CEC announces factual victory of Georgy Margvelashvili in presidential election
Georgy Margvelashvili, the presidential candidate of the ruling coalition "Georgian Dream", has actually won the presidential election in Georgia. This was announced by the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia.
According to the information published on the website of the Georgian CEC, following the results of the data processing from 81% of the electoral precincts, Georgy Margvelashvili gained 62.19% votes of the residents. The second place went to David Bakradze, the presidential candidate of the former ruling party, who gained 21.86% of the votes, and the third place to Nino Burjanadze, the leader of the "Democratic Movement-United Georgia" Party, who gained 10.04% of votes. According to the preliminary data, 46.6% of voters came to the election.
According to the recent information, Georgy Margvelashvili has already gained more than half of votes 829,454. According to the Georgian laws, to win the first round, a presidential candidate should gain 50% plus one vote. Thus, Georgy Margvelashvili has actually won the election, regardless of the data to be received from the remaining electoral precincts, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
According to the Chairman of the CEC, it is too early to talk about the final results of the election, since the CEC has 19 days to count the results. "If there are no special claims against the course of the election, the final official results will be presented much earlier," the "News-Georgia" quotes Zhvaniya as saying.
However, a number of presidential candidates and their agents have reported on the falsifications revealed. In particular, Shalva Natelashvili believes that the election of the President of Georgia was falsified as a result of a deal between the "Georgian Dream" Party and the "United National Movement" Party. The fact that the results of the election have been fabricated was also reported by Irakli Batiashvili, the head of the election headquarters of Nino Burjanadze.
