Kabardino-Balkaria: residents of dilapidated barracks refuse to move to communal flats

In Nalchik, residents of the barracks located in Gorky Street, recognized as dilapidated and unfit for living, have refused to move into new apartment buildings, because the city authorities offered to move two or three families into one flat.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Djuliana Kuzheva, a resident of barrack No. 25 inGorky Street, that the administration offered her to move with her two children into a room of a flat occupied by other families.

"I don't like the idea. Firstly, my elder son has grown up, while my second one suffers from cerebral palsy, and he doesn't walk but crawls," said Djuliana Kuzheva.

Madina Tazheva, a mother of many children, also refused to move to the housing offered to her by the authorities.

"We're eight in our family; and we now live in a room of 16 square meters. The Nalchik administration offers me to move to the same room in a two-bedroom apartment. I do not see any logic. Here, I have at least a separate entrance. And I do not have to share bathroom and kitchen with anyone," Madina Tazheva said.

It should be noted that the Nalchik administration tried to force residents of the barracks to move to new houses by filing 22 claims to the courts in 2011-2012. However, the court supported the residents of the barracks in all cases and dismissed the claims.
