In Dagestan, drivers of fixed-route taxis increase fare for route Makhachkala-Kaspiisk

Starting from January 1, 2013, fare in private fixed-route taxis for route "Makhachkala-Kaspiisk" has grown from 25 to 30 roubles, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Telman Agamirzaev, a private driver has explained the reason for the fare increase by the fact that with the increase in fuel prices, the old rates became unprofitable. "In recent time, fuel and utility services became more expensive, and it is not profitable for us to transport passengers by old rates," the driver said.

Residents of Kaspiisk treated fare increase negatively. The distance between the two cities is about 15 kilometres, and many people daily commute to work and study to Makhachkala. The fixed-route taxis are the main mode of transportation between the two cities.

"Every day, I go to study to Makhachkala, and, sometimes, I have to travel several times a day. The fare increase means extra several hundred roubles, and I have no income, except for maintenance allowance," the "Caucasian Knot" was told by student Ruslan.

"No one was warned, and they raised the fare arbitrarily. It's a chaos, and they do what they want. We go to Makhachkala not because of our good life, since not all people can find job in Kaspiisk," Zarema, a resident of Kaspiisk, expresses her indignation.
