In Baku, police disperse IDPs' protest action

Today, the police have stopped a protest action held in Baku by internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in Hostel No. 5 of the Baku State University.

The protesters have attempted to block traffic in Metbuat Avenue. After the intervention of the police, the traffic was reopened.

According to the State Committee for Refugees, in the course of the Karabakh conflict, over 700,000 persons left their homes and settled in 62 cities and districts of Azerbaijan.

Protests of IDPs are associated with a failure to provide residence to them in a newly built settlement, the "Trend" reports.

According to the above State Committee for Refugees, the protesters were those displaced persons who have created families with those who have no such status. "These claims are baseless," the "Apa.az" quotes the spokesman of the above Committee.
