Lyudmila Alekseyeva: "Only international peacekeeping forces can settle the situation in Chechnya"

"Only international peacekeeping forces can settle the situation in Chechnya," holds chairwoman of the Moscow Helsinki Group Lyudmila Alekseyeva.

In her interview with the Interfax news agency, she expressed the opinion that negotiations with Chechen leader Aslan Maskhadov would barely resolve the conflict.

Lyudmila Alekseyeva urged to start talks with influential Chechen warlords through the mediation of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the United Nations as early as summer 2003.
