In Tbilisi, activists of "Georgian Dream" protest against tree felling

Youth organizations of the "Georgian Dream" party coalition protest against felling of trees in Tbilisi. This was announced today by Tatiya Shetakuri, the representative of the coalition, at a campaign briefing.

According to the read appeal addressed to Mayor Giga Ugulava, the "Georgian Dream" demands that he should explain the reason for cutting down perennial trees in the capital.

The appeal states that trees were already cut down in Kikvidze Park, on the embankment, near Baratashvili Bridge, Agmashenebeli Avenue, Saarbrucken Square, Tsereteli Avenue, Uznadze, Beijing, and Pushkin Streets, the hippodrome territory and in other places.

The activists are also interested to know the Mayor's attitude to felling trees due to the construction, planned in Digomi Forest Park, the "Georgia online" reports.

"In recent years, only in parks and gardens of Tbilisi, more than 4000 trees destroyed. One by one, they cut down Mziuri Park, trees in the forest park, and hippodrome, where less and less trees remain," stated earlier Marina Mchedlishvili, the activist of the group, supporting Greenpeace. According to her, Tbilisi has no place with a large number of trees anymore, the "Georgia today" reports.

Till present, no comments from representatives of Tbilisi's authority with respect to the activists' claims are available.
