Azerbaijan: after riots in Guba four journalists were arrested

According to unofficial sources, within the last three days four more persons have been arrested in the context with the events in the city of Guba, where the unrest burst out on March 1 with a demand of resignation of the head of the Guba District. Local law enforcement bodies neither confirm nor deny this information.

It became known on March 16 that three days earlier, on March 13, Vugar Gonagov, the executive director, Zaur Guliev, the editor-in-chief, and Zaur Mustafaev, the advertisement editor, of the regional TV Channel "Khayal", as well as Djamil Mamedli, the area correspondent of the "Polygon" information agency, were also detained in the context of the events in Guba.

According to sources from Guba, all the detainees were taken to Baku. We also learned that the house of Djamil Mamedli was searched; however the reason for this was not disclosed by law enforcers. Relatives of the detainees know nothing about their fate.

Musafeddin Mustafaev, Zaur's father, knows neither the reason for his son's detention nor the place where the latter is kept. "I'm looking for my son myself. The Guba district prosecutor said that they would let him go within two or three hours; however, three days have expired, but my son hasn't come," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The "Polygon" has confirmed the detention of their area correspondent. Its editor-in-chief Azar Garamanly said that he had no information about what happened to Djamil Mamedli.
