In Astrakhan, hunger strike against election falsifications begins

A continuing hunger strike began in Astrakhan. The number of its participants includes six persons, who, in particular, demand cancellation of the results of the elections of the Mayor and the Astrakhan City Duma, the of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Alexander Kamanin, the deputy of the Astrakhan Regional Duma, the journalists Sergey Kozhanov and Alexander Kirpichenko, Valentina Kukushkina, who worked at the recent elections at the Precinct Election Commission No. 384 as the member of the Commission with a consultative vote right, Evgeny Dunaev, ex-Chairman of the Astrakhan City Council, the head of office of the leader of the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia) Party in Astrakhan, and Sergey Chaplygin.

The participants of the protesters action handed over their statement to employees of the Regional Election Commission. According to the authors of the statement, "falsifiers of the elections held in December 2011 felt their full impunity and invulnerability and transformed the unified day of voting on March 4, 2012, into a continuous series of violations of the election laws."

The authors of the statement demanded to dissolve the territorial election commissions of Astrakhan and the Astrakhan Region, institute criminal proceedings against the chairpersons of the territorial election commissions and the election commissions, examine the police activities at a number of electoral precincts, cancel the results of the elections of deputies to the Astrakhan City Duma and of the early elections of the head of the municipality "City of Astrakhan", the "Interkavkaz" reports.

According to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the building of the Regional Election Committee was cordoned off. Journalists are not allowed into the building.
