Kavminvody activists take part in motor rally "For Fair Elections" held in Pyatigorsk

The action in the form of a motor rally "For Fair Elections", held on February 26 in Pyatigorsk, was attended by about thirty cars, representing not only Pyatigorsk, but other cities of the region known as the Caucasian Mineral Waters (Kavminvody).

Let us remind you that the organizer of the action was the public organization "League of Voters of Pyatigorsk and Kavminvody", a member of the all-Russian Movement "League of Voters".

Initially, it was planned to drive along two streets around the Komsomolskiy Park - Ordzhonikidze and Panagyurishte Streets; however, just before the event, both streets were closed because of the Shrovetide festivities held in the park. Therefore, the activists decided to move along the "alternative" and longer route - along Kalinin, 295th Infantry Division, Moscow, and Boulevard Streets.

The cars were decorated with white ribbons, balloons, stickers and posters, reading among other things: "Vova, go!" and "I promise to promise. Executor - Vladimir Putin". Activists handed out stickers to drivers to be put on windshields: "For Fair Elections!"

The cars kept moving from 2 to 3 p.m.; they managed to make several laps. Drivers greeted each other with horn signals; they were accompanied en route by about three dozen pedestrians with white flags and balloons in their hands.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Mikhail Parshin, one of the organizers of the action and the head of a regional environmental organization "Solar Patrol", that, in accordance with the current legislation, the motor rally required no mandatory notification of the authorities. However, several drivers-protesters were stopped by the police under various pretexts, such as for checking documents.

Let us note here that February 26 was also the date for a civil rally "For Fair Elections" in the city of Mineralnye Vody, which was to bring together activists of public organizations and branches of political parties from various cities of Kavminvody. It was also planned to compile a list of people willing to act as observers at the upcoming March 4 presidential and municipal elections.

However, the rally was not sanctioned by the authorities; and some would-be participants moved to a similar event in the nearby town of Lermontov.

On February 26, several protests took place in Stavropol: a march along the central October Revolution Avenue; a rally of the united opposition on Castle Hill, a flash mob "Civil Circle" in Lenin Square and an ecological picket in 200th Anniversary Square.
