Krasnodar Territory: defence challenges ex-judge Novikov's arrest
On February 19, the lawyers of the retired Sochi judge Dmitry Novikov, who is accused of corruption, filed a complaint against his arrest to the appeal instance of the Krasnodar Territorial Court.
"The complaint was filed in the appeal instance of the Territorial Court. We hope that in two weeks it will be considered. We ask to cancel the decision to satisfy the petition of the head of the ICRF (Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation) and uphold another freedom restriction measure, not related with custody," said Pyotr Skripilev, a Novikov's advocate, as quoted by the RIA "Novosti".
According to the advocate, Mr Novikov still retains his immunity guarantee; and he remains at large. Only after the court decision comes into force, the ICRF will have to direct a presentation to the Qualification Board of Judges to arrest Novikov, the RAPSI reports.
