Residents of the Derbent District of Dagestan claim of illegal detentions

As stated by residents of the village of Berikei and the township of Mamedkala, in the Derbent District of Dagestan law enforcers detained six people, who are exposed to physical and psychological pressure.

"In the morning on February 17, without showing any warrants, armed power agents in camouflage and masks broke into houses of some residents. They behaved rudely and aggressively; they conducted search, planted ammunition and firearms on some of them; and took some people away to the Derbent ROVD (District Interior Division). In total, to my knowledge, they detained about six people, maybe more," said Ali Aliev, a resident of Berikei.

He said that searches were conducted in the houses of Renat Djamalov and Nurali Abdurakhmanov. "The latter was beaten along with his wife and son; the son was also taken to the ROVD," said Ali Aliev.

In his turn, Suleiman Magomedov, a resident of Mamedkala, said that in the evening on February 17 law enforcers detained his nephew Maksud Magomedov.

"He was on his way home from Makhachkala in a fixed-route taxi. When Maksud did not come home in due time, the family raised the alarm. As a result of searching, we found out that Maksud was at the Derbent ROVD. There, we were told that Maksud was searched, and ammunition and grenades were found on him. Clearly, it was all planted, because no one would imagine to go in a fixed-route taxi with such an arsenal," said Magomedov.

The on duty unit of the Derbent ROVD, same as the MIA of Dagestan, refused from any comments.
