An exhibition of ecologic video art "Echo-Eco" opened in Sochi

An exhibition of works of video art "Echo-Eco" devoted to ecology and protection of the environment opened in Sochi. 15 works by finalists of the contest were exhibited. All in all, over 350 works from Italy, Russia, Portugal, Germany, the USA, Canada, Spain, China and other countries were presented at the contest.

As the "Caucasian Knot" reported earlier, "Echo-Eco" was included into the program of V International winter festival named after Yury Bashmet.

Artist Vica Begalskaya from Ukraine in her video work "Sand" shows a beach in the neighbourhood of Sevastopol which local residents have attended for many years. The children and the adults on the beach are surrounded by debris, dirt and rust but they feel not the slightest discomfort or confusion about it.

In the work "Environmental Apple" by Andreas Soderberg from Sweden the apple appears as a symbol of life of all the creatures, including mankind. The apple breathes and disappears little by little. In his work the artist tries to make clear who has the force to maintain the apple or life in our planet.

A computer film "Way" by Ching Khuog from China was created according to the canons of traditional Chinese painting and its mission is to demonstrate the interweaving of ancient Chinese philosophy and Western chaos theory which shows the dynamics of reality surrounding us.

For the first time the international exhibition and contest of video art "Echo-Eco" passed off within the framework of IV International winter art festival in Sochi in 2011. Antonio Geusa, permanent curator of "Echo-Eco" project, a famous Italian expert, specialist in the history of cinema, said that this year it was much easier to find the works for the event thanks to success of the last-year's exhibition in Sochi.

Antonio Geusa also said that the organizers of the environmental cinema festival in Turin (Italy) expressed their readiness to cooperate with "Echo-Eco" exhibition. Besides, there will be a show of the exhibition in Moscow this June during a presentation of the next Sochi IV International winter art festival.

He emphasized a non-commercial nature of the project. According to Antonio Geusa, the artists did not create their works for sale.

All the guests and participants will be able to see the exhibition free of charge any day of the festival till February, 16.
