Chechnya celebrates Prophet Muhammad's birthday today

Today, the whole territory of the Chechen Republic hosts celebrations of the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, which began early in the morning.

At dawn, colourful fireworks could be seen in Grozny and other cities and district centres on the occasion; then, believers made their morning namaz, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The main events take place in the central mosque of the republic – "Heart of Chechnya" – in Grozny. The Koran is read here; the religious rites of mavlid and zikr are executed with participation of all virds (religious communities) active in the territory of the republic.

Besides, the villages and settlements execute immolations, after which meat is given to needy and poor families. Religious activities to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad will continue during daylight hours.

The religious events in the central mosque of Chechnya are held under reinforced security measures. Power agents have completely blocked traffic in highway adjacent to the mosque "Heart of Chechnya" and its neighbourhoods.
