In Nalchik, bus drivers stop striking

Drivers of urban transport company in the city of Nalchik stopped their strike announced almost two weeks ago and began to work today.

"At present, almost all economic demands of the company's employees concerning payment of wages and purchasing spare parts have been satisfied, and they stopped their strike," says Albert Birmamitov, the chief engineer.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 10, the employees of the company Municipal Unitary Enterprise (MUE) "Nalchikavtobustrans" went on strike. About 200 workers did not come to work: drivers of city and intercity buses and technical personnel of the company. Representatives of the republic's leadership and city authorities met the workers. They urged the strikers to start the work. On January 23, the trade union of transport workers of Kabardino-Balkaria reached a concert to stop the strike.

In total, today 54 buses went on their city routes and 5 intercity buses began working.

"At present, several buses are under repair, and they are to enter their city routes on the coming days. In general, little by little we will restore the schedule," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Albert Birmamitov as saying.

Earlier, Gisa Tavkeshev, the head of the Municipal Enterprise "Nalchikavtobustrans", stated that demands of the drivers were unfounded. However, the director of the MUE acknowledged that the company had arrears of wages to employees amounted to 170,000 roubles.
