Criminal case on "negligence" opened because of death of eight babies in Nalchik

As a result of the pre-investigation check, conducted by the investigatory committee on the fact of death of eight babies in a hospital in Nalchik, a criminal case was initiated under the article of negligence.

The babies' parents believe that their kids could die because of power outages that happened at the hospital. The investigatory committee began its check into the babies' death.

"The criminal case was opened on the death of newborns under Article 293, part 3, a negligence resulting in death of two or more persons," said Tatiana Nauzhokova, Senior Assistant of the Chairman of the Investigatory Department for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) of the ICRF (Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation).

This article assumes the punishment of up to 7 years of imprisonment and deprivation of the right to hold certain posts for up to three years.

No charges have been presented yet. "The investigation will establish particular culprits, both among doctors and the staff of the 'Gorelectroset'; their right to cut off electricity, in association with the fact that seven out of eight babies-casualties were under artificial respiration and dependent on oxygen supply," said Nauzhokova.

The Ministry of Public Health of the KBR has reported, in its turn, that all the babies had initially been in a very grave condition, when transferred from maternity houses to the hospital; the resuscitation measures were complete; and the medical personnel had acted correctly.
