In Dagestan, Gimry residents claim being beaten by policemen

Law enforcement agents and soldiers, who surround the village of Gimry of the Untsukul District starting January 9, beat several villagers and shot from submachine gun into the air. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Shamil Abdullaev, a local resident.

"Since yesterday, January 12, house-to-house searches began. They are being conducted by armed men in camouflage and masks and policemen. They explain nothing to us and behave rudely," said Shamil Abdullaev. According to him, on January 12, "policemen beat young guys Gamzat and Gazimagomed only because they asked to explain the reasons for their behaviour."

"Today, another incident happened. They took a young guy to some unknown destination, when his father went after him, and his son was also beaten. First shots were made. Children made pictures of each other and power agents with their mobile phones, a policeman did not like that and he opened fire from his submachine gun into the air," stated a local resident. According to him, at present, the children are frightened and refuse to go out.

According to Shamil Abdullaev, a rally was scheduled for January 14. "During all that time, no power agent came out to talk to us; it seems that they do not treat us as humans. The situation can be completely out of control, someone can say something, someone does not like it, and the incident can turn to shooting. To avoid that, we go out on a rally to express our protest," said the Gimry resident.

In turn, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan has stated that they do not have information on current events in the village.
