A citizen of Azerbaijan detained in Georgia for violation of the rules of entry into Abkhazia

Border guards in Georgia detained a citizen of Azerbaijan Ilgar Guseinov. He is accused of illegal crossing the border with Abkhazia.

Guseinov was detained on January, 11, as a result of a joint operation of Zugdidi district Department of Chief regional directorate of frontier police in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and the Second frontier of Poti operational investigative department.

According to the data of the police, on December, 14, 2011, Ilgar Guseinov entered into the territory of Abkhazia through "Psou" checkpoint in Abkhazian section of Georgian-Russian border, IA "Novosti-Georgia" reports.

A criminal case was initiated on the fact of Guseinov's detention. The detainee may be fined to a large sum or sentenced to up to five years of imprisonment. "Georgia Online" reports.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that on September, 18, 2010, Russia and Abkhazia signed an intergovernmental agreement on the checkpoints of crossing the Russian-Abkhazian border. The agreement specifies a regular multilateral motor, pedestrian and cargo-and-passenger checkpoint Adler (Russia) - Psou (Abkhazia).

In their turn, the Georgian authorities state that the only official point of crossing the border at the land Georgian-Russian frontier is the checkpoint of "Kazbegi - Verkhny Lars". Representative of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Georgia Shota Utiashvili said that the foreigners visiting Abkhazia or South Ossetia without a permission of the Georgian authorities would undergo criminal liability on entering into the territory of the country.
