Volgograd Regional Court fines investigator by about one million roubles for bribe-taking

The Volgograd Regional Court found the senior investigator of the district police division for bribery and ordered him to pay a large fine of 960,000 roubles, the Regional Court reports.

Investigators revealed that in April the police officer received a bribe of 60,000 roubles from relatives of a man suspected of attempt to sell drugs. For the money, the investigator Dmitry Bondar promised to re-classify the defendant's actions to less serious crime, the Court has clarified.

The suspect's lawyer acted as intermediary in the transfer of the bribe, the "Pravo.ru" reports. After receipt of the required amount, the investigator was detained by officers from the Department of the Own Security Service of the Chief Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the FSB of the Volgograd Region, the "RIA Novosti" reports.

"The court has sentenced Dmitry Bondar to a penalty in the form of a fine 16 times higher than the amount of the bribe 960,000 roubles and deprived him of the right to hold any position in law enforcement agencies related to implementation of functions of authority representative for a period of one year," the Regional Court reports.
