Brazilian city of Campinas officially recognizes Genocide of Armenians

Demetrio Vilagra, Mayor of the Brazilian city of Campinas, has signed a resolution adopted by the city parliament on recognition zing the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Turkey. The city Mayoralty has officially informed the Armenian Embassy in Brazil about it.

As reported by the press service of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, after signing the resolution and its publication in the official newspaper "Diario Ofisial", the document has acquired the force of law. According to the resolution, every year April 24 will be marked as the Memory Day of the Armenian Genocide.

The city of Campinas (state of Sao Paulo), which has the population of 1.2 million people, also has a small Armenian community, the IA "News-Armenia" reports.

On December 16-18, this city hosted the Days of Armenia, where the opening ceremony presented about 70 paintings by local artists dedicated to Armenia, and sculptures, as well as Armenian carpets and other works of art. The ceremony was attended by the officials of the city parliament and mayoralty, heads of the Armenian community in Brazil and diplomats, the IA "Armenpress" reports.
