Alan Kochiev, ex-candidate for South Ossetian presidency, released from custody

Today, in Tskhinvali, Alan Kochiev, ex-candidate for South Ossetian presidency, was released on the recognizance not to leave. This was reported by the Prosecutor's Office of South Ossetia.

Let us remind you that on August 19, Alan Kochiev was detained by the law enforcement agents on suspicion of beating Alik Pliev, MP of South Ossetia. In two weeks after his arrest, the Central Election Commission accepted documents from Alan Kochiev's supporters for his nomination for presidency, and on September 23 his candidacy was registered. On November 11, Alan Kochiev withdrew his candidacy in favour of Anatoly Bibilov; however, on November 29, he urged Anatoly Bibilov to recognize his defeat in the election.

The Prosecutor's Office of South Ossetia emphasizes that "the release of Alan Kochiev from the custody is not connected with his political activities."

At pronouncing the decision to release ex-presidential candidate, the Tskhinvali District Court drew attention to the poor health of Alan Kochiev, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Alan Kochiev is at home now, and he does not comment on the situation to journalists yet.
