Mother of young metro fighter with Caucasians wants to leave Russia

The Moscow resident Inga Kharitonova, the mother of the student Gleb Kharitonov, who in mid-October participated in a fight in the Moscow metro with immigrants from the Caucasus, has decided to leave Russia. She states that she will go to Latvia, after Prime Minister Vladimir Putin answered her letter during the "hot line".

Let us remind you that the incident with Gleb Kharitonov was became known on October 22. According to the official version of the Moscow Chief Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the fight in the metro occurred between Gleb Kharitonov and his "mates" immigrants from the Caucasian republics. According to Gleb Kharitonov himself, he stood up for a woman, and then the fight occurred. According to the opposite side, the incident was provoked by Gleb Kharitonov, who behaved provocatively.

During the "hot line" held on December 15, the film director Nikita Mikhalkov told the Prime Minister the story of Gleb Kharitonov's beating.

Nikita Mikhalkov read the letter written by Inga Kharitonova, and asked Vladimir Putin to respond to the family.

"On this October 21, my middle son, the 19-year-old first-year student Gleb Kharitonov, was beaten in the metro, when he stood up for a strange woman, molested by five Caucasians. No one stood up for the boy. Thank God, someone called the police. He was hospitalized with a brain injury to the Research Institute named after Sklifosovsky. Several years ago I left Latvia, where I had interesting job, good apartment and faithful friends. I went home to Russia, for my sons would grow up and study here. At present, I regret that. What will they receive here? My children are brought up in the spirit of Orthodoxy. The concepts of "Homeland," "honour", "dignity", "justice" are not mere words for them. What's going on with Russia?" Nikita Mikhalkov has quoted the text message.

"You said that, according to the letter, 5 persons from Caucasus molested a woman, and the writer's son stood up for her. Well, first of all, I want to congratulate this woman with the way she raised her son. Secondly, I want to say that, believe me, Caucasian guys can also show the best human qualities. As for the hooligans, they may come from the Caucasus, Moscow and, unfortunately, from my hometown of Leningrad, Saint Petersburg, from anywhere," answered the Prime Minister the Inga Kharitonova's letter, the transcript of the "hot line " was posted on the official website of the government of the Russian Federation.

After Vladimir Putin's answer, Inga Kharitonova has decided to leave Russia and return to Latvia. She argues that "the situation in Russia became unsafe" and that she "takes a ticket and leaves for Latvia."

"I cannot go to the barricades. My children are unable to cope here. They will be just killed. I have no protection here. However, there must be a hope. If you are given a hope, every patient will be striving to get better. And when you have no hope, this is a depression," the Radio "Freedom" quotes Inga Kharitonova as saying.

Nikita Mikhalkov did not comment on the situation around Inga Kharitonova and her family.
