Adler residents report pollution of water body in "Chaisovkhoz"

As reported by local residents and ecologists, in the area of the city of Adler, in the "Chaisovkhoz" (Tea State Farm), a spillage of petroleum products took place.

Oily spots on the surface of the water body, located near the military unit, were detected by locals. According to ecologists, now 9 rescuers and about a dozen of soldiers are busy in the place of the accidents, trying to pump off the spilled products.

"Most likely, kerosene was discharged into the water. Currently, the water surface is all covered with oily film. The polluted area makes 200 square meters," the portal "Yuga.ru" quotes Vladimir Minenko, Deputy Chief of Operations of the institution named "Sochi Emergency Service for the Adler District".

Residents of the "Chaisovkhoz" assert that a strong smell of petroleum products was felt all the night, while rescuers started their work only in the morning on December 19. Ecologists fear that part of the contaminated water could get into the Black Sea.

The website of the Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus reports that the leakage of petroleum products originated from the territory of the military unit.

So far, the ecologists' information was not commented by any officials of the Ecological Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Defence.
