Dagestan sets up parliamentary-public commission to investigate the murder of Khadjimurad Kamalov

The Dagestani leader Magomedsalam Magomedov has offered to take the murder of Khadjimurad Kamalov under public control and form a parliamentary-public commission with participation of the members of the Public Chamber of Dagestan and involvement of media workers and journalists of the "Chernovik" weekly.

The murder of Khadjimurad Kamalov, the head of the Publishing House "Svoboda Slova" (Freedom of Speech) and the founder of the weekly "Chernovik", had a great resonance not only in Dagestan, but throughout Russia, Magomedsalam Magomedov said on December 19.

"We, Dagestanis, know ourselves what to do. Unfortunately, journalism is a dangerous profession; and Khadjimurad, unfortunately, got on the death toll of journalists, well-known people, respected in our country and bringing by their activities benefits to the civil society. Therefore, we must do everything to make this kind of crimes condemned by the entire society and resolved, and the murderers – surely punished. No one should have reasons to speculate on this subject," said the head of Dagestan, noting that the authorities are in the first place interested in this.

It is assumed that the inquiry conducted by the parliamentary-public commission will not substitute the criminal investigation. The employees of the Investigatory Department and other law enforcement bodies have been instructed to regularly inform the public about the progress of the investigation into the murder of Khadjimurad Kamalov and other similar crimes.
