On December 5-11, five persons were killed in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of December 5-11, the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus took away at least five human lives; and at least 10 persons were injured. These are the results of calculations of the "Caucasian Knot", based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The casualties include one law enforcer in Dagestan and four suspected militants in Karachay-Cherkessia. Those injured are four policemen in Dagestan and six civilians (five in Dagestan and one in Ingushetia).

An attack on law enforcers was committed in Dagestan, where one MIA employee was killed and one wounded; four civilians were also injured. In Ingushetia, the car of Deputy Public Health Minister Sofa Esmurzieva was shelled; she was hospitalized with injuries.

In Kabardino-Balkaria, the village of Zhankhoteko, Baksan District, was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime, which was subsequently lifted. Besides, the CTO regime, which had been introduced in the territory of the village of Gerpegezha, Cherek District of Kabardino-Balkaria, was also cancelled.

Two explosions were triggered in Dagestan and wounded one civilian and three policemen. Thus, two bombs exploded in the Dagestani city of Kizilyurt. The incident occurred at night on December 6 near the store in Irchi Kazak Street. The shop building was damaged, and the watchman wounded. He was hospitalized with fragmental wounds.

Also on December 6 at night, on the highway "Kizilyurt-Shamkhalyangiyurt", when an immediate response group was on the way to the place of a previous incident in their service armoured UAZ van, unidentified criminals triggered the second unidentified explosive device with the power of about 10 kilos of TNT equivalent without striking elements, planted on the roadside. The explosion wounded three employees of the MIA division "Kizilyurt" who were hospitalized.

Also in Dagestan, a policeman was killed; and one policeman and four civilians were wounded in the shelling opened in the evening on December 8 at the police unit, who left at the scene of a road accident in the Kizlyar District.

In a special operation in Karachay-Cherkessia, according to power agents, Biaslan Gochiyaev, a militants' leader, and three of his accomplices were liquidated. The special operation was conducted on December 7 in the vicinity of the village of Kumysh, Karachay District. Policemen tried to stop a VAZ-21140 car, owned by a resident of Karachay-Cherkessia and hijacked in the city of Cherkessk. In the pursuit of the car, fire was opened from inside.

Policemen opened a response fire, which triggered a powerful explosion in the chased car. During inspection of the venue the bodies of Biaslan Gochiyaev, 27, Temurlan Totorkulov, 25, Valentin Dlugoborskiy, 27, and Marina Urusova, 33, a resident of the Zelenchuk District of Karachay-Cherkessia were found in and near the car. Also, the site of shooting was full of firearms, including automatic ones, ammunition, an improvised explosive device (IED), which was destroyed in place for safety reasons.

In Nazran (Ingushetia), an armed attack on the Deputy Minister of Public Health Sofa Esmurzieva was committed; with a gunshot wound in her leg she was taken to hospital in Vladikavkaz. The fire was opened at the woman, when her driver dropped her near her house and began to move off. The criminals who supposedly moved in a VAZ 2114 car managed to escape.

During the week, at least five persons were detained on suspicion of involvement in illegal armed formations (IAFs) or aiding them: three of them in Chechnya, one in Karachay-Cherkessia and one in Dagestan. At least eight persons were detained for weapon possession; four of them in Kabardino-Balkaria, three in Dagestan and one in Chechnya.
