In Belorechenskaya colony, more than 20 juvenile inmates cut their arms

On December 10, twenty-two juvenile prisoners of the Belorechenskaya juvenile correctional colony of the Krasnodar Territory cut their hands with razor blades. This was reported today by the official representative of the UFSIN (Department of the Russian Federal Correction Service) of the Krasnodar Territory.

"Twenty-two people inflicted superficial wounds to their forearms. They received first aid, their wounds had been treated, and there are no threats to their lives," he said. The incident occurred at 10:40 p.m. Moscow time.

With their action, the juvenile prisoners tried to draw public attention and demanded concessions to the colony regime, the "Yugopolis" reports with reference to a source in law enforcement agencies.

The FSIN (the Russian Federal Correction Service) officer has emphasized that the incident was of "defiantly intimidating nature." "In fact, they have no intention to inflict any harm to their health, they did everything for the public," he said and added that the juvenile prisoners had not cut their veins.

The Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory has started an investigation into that fact. Upon summarizing the investigation results, the Prosecutor's Office plans to evaluate the actions of the personnel of the colony and the FSIN of the Krasnodar Territory and the juvenile prisoners with regard to compliance with the requirements of the criminal-executive legislation, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
