Ankvab spoke out in defense of the rivers of Abkhazia against constructors of Olympic objects

Without a damage to the environment of Abkhazia delivery of building materials for construction of Olympic objects is possible only from the area of the Kodor river (Ochamchira district), President of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab declared promising to disallow industrial delivery of inert materials from other rivers.

During his meeting with journalists Alexander Ankvab said that the constructors of Olympic objects could only expect no more than two million cubic meters inert materials from Abkhazia.

Answering the question of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent whether inert materials were exported from Abkhazia for construction of Olympic objects at the moment Ankvab said that "there was a great desire and a lion's appetite but the abilities turned out more moderate".

"We can provide inert materials without damaging our environment only if we take them from the Kodor river (Ochamchira district) which is not a beach area and is equal to the Dnieper by its capacity", Ankvab explained.

According to head of the republic, the rest rivers of Abkhazia are not fit for extraction inert materials which is confirmed by ecologists. "We will not let the Psou, the Bzyb and the Gumista rivers become industrial objects of else we will lose our beaches", he said.

Meanwhile, the official Georgia still considers goods exchange between Russia and Abkhazia illegal and the export of construction materials from the Abkhazian territory to Sochi also ecologically unsafe, "Georgia Online" referring to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia reports.
