KubSU denies students' reports on searches and detentions in hostels

In Krasnodar, Mikhail Astapov, Rector of the Kuban State University (KubSU), has refuted information that on November 30 there were searches and detentions in university hostels.

"The administration is not aware of such facts. I personally was there and met managers of hostels Nos. 2 and 3; we discussed the problems associated with students' accommodation; however, they didn't tell me about any searches conducted by law enforcement bodies. The latter, in their turn, had not notified us about their intentions on any activities in the campus," said Mikhail Astapov, the Rector of the KubSU.

"Not a single student has approached me on searches in the hostels, although we have a fairly stable feedback from students; and when problems arise, for example, with the pass system (we cooperate with a private security agency), they are always discussed," said Mr Astapov.

The Rector's words were confirmed by Alexander Sheludko, the head of the university security service.

"There were no students' complaints. I've heard nothing about searches conducted by law enforcers at university hostels. In general, you can write anything on the Internet. We've already seen cases like this," Mr Sheludko told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Meanwhile, Valentina Klimenko, the manager of hostel No. 2, said that on November 30 the passport-visa regime was checked at the KubSU. "It was a pre-planned action – check of passport-visa regime. No one was detained and taken anywhere," she said.
