Tourist groups in Adygea will be controlled by GLONASS

In February 2012, at the suggestion of the Regional Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) for Adygea, the Moscow Institute of Communications plans to test the work of the digital communication system for controlling tourist groups.

The digital system for controlling tourist group will look as a hybrid of the GLONASS satellite navigation system, and cellular and paging communication. It will help rescuers to accurately define the location and speed of travel of a tourist group en route, the website of the MfE for Adygea reports.

"The system differs from the GLONASS navigator in that it not only accurately defines the location of the group, but also provides a reliable two-way communication with it. The system is favourably different from the current system of radio communication, which sometimes fails and is difficult to use because of peculiarities of mountainous terrains," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Alexander Lyashko, the head of the Adyg search and rescue team.
