In Pyatigorsk, activists of "Stop cutting Mashuk!" to picket city Mayoralty

The protest action "Stop cutting Mashuk!" will be held on November 27 in front of the administration of the city of Pyatigorsk by the members of the city initiative group "Solar Patrol".

The "Solar Patrol" and the residents living near the Mount Mashuk demand to stop construction works in Kuchura Street, and cancel the decision on privatization of a land plot on the western slope of the mountain.

According to Evgeniy Lazarenko, more than two thousand persons had planned to take part in the protest action. It was actively promoted on the Internet, in the social network "VKontakte". "Over 2000 users signed to come to the action, although we understand that there will be less people. Residents of neighbouring cities plan to come and care about the fate of Mashuk," said Lazarenko.

Local residents and activists of the "Solar Patrol" continue asserting that as a result of the construction work on Mount Mashuk the greenery is destroyed.

According to the Pyatigorsk architect Gaspar Srabionyan, construction of any sites on Mashuk may cause substantial damage not only to the nature, but also to residents of Pyatigorsk, because the works are conducted on one of the mountain slopes, where groundwater is coming down.

Meanwhile, the administration of Pyatigorsk disagrees with the initiative group "Solar Patrol" and residents of the houses adjacent to the western slope of Mashuk.

According to Dmitry Voroshilov, the acting first deputy of the head of the administration, now, there are no construction works in progress on the western slope of Mashuk, since the construction permit will be issued to the builder of the boarding house only after design, agreement and approval of the full volume of project documentation.
