Sochi hosts action demanding to put courts under public control

On November 26, about 30 Sochi residents, who had been deprived of their property under court decisions, held a two-hour-long picket.

The picketers were holding posters: "Judges – under public control!", "We are against impunity of judges!", "Made a decision? Bear responsibility!", "Enough appointing judges – they must be elected!" and others, with addresses of the houses under threat of demolition and demands to dismiss particular Sochi judges.

Activists collected signatures to the resolution against actions of some members of the city judiciary. According to Roman Shikarev, the organizers of the picket, the resolution will be sent to the Russian President.

"People see no other way to draw the attention of the authorities to the judicial system and illegal actions of certain judges," Roman told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The picket passed without incidents; however, according to Mr Shikarev, some unknown persons attempted to disrupt it. On his behalf, SMS-messages had been sent to the phones of many activists saying that the picket had been reappointed to 6 p.m.
