Oppositionists in Rostov-on-Don are planning a people’s gathering of the townsmen

On the day of parliamentary election, December, 4, oppositionists in Rostov-on-Don are planning to hold a people’s gathering “People against illicit election”.

“The participants will bring to the square unused absentee ballots, ballot papers, their written statements of exclusion from electoral lists as evidence of boycotting illegitimate election. The action will be a civil and non-partisan one”, Vladimir Ryazantsev, coordinator of the “Left Front” movement in Rostov region, said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

In the opinion of the organizers, the forthcoming election is a gross violation of the concept of universal and equal suffrage secured by the Constitution.

“Federal election is Russia goes exclusively by the lists of candidates from political parties (which is not stipulated by the Constitution) members of which are summarily less than 3% of the electorate”, Ryazantsev remarked.

“Under these circumstances, we consider the parliamentary “election” on December, 4, illegitimate and violating the Constitution. We call for the citizens to boycott this disgraceful “election” in any reasonable way. We also call for the people to come out for the actions of protest which will be organized in the central squares of Russian towns and settlements”, Ryazantsev said.

According to the “Left Front” activist, the participants of the gathering will advance such demands as: voiding the totals of the illicit parliamentary election of December, 4; immediate adoption of a new Electoral code which would stipulate free election and returning combined electoral concept: both by party electoral lists and single-member districts.
