Rostov-on-Don hosts solo pickets in support of arrested oppositionists

Rostov-on-Don has seen a series of solo pickets in support of Maxim Slipchenko and Evgeniy Melnikov, arrested for 10 days. According to the organizers of the actions, on November 13-19 from two to seven persons held pickets in Rostov-on-Don, at the building of the Russian Presidential Envoy in the Southern Federal District (SFD).

On November 11, two activists of the "Left-Wing Front" Maxim Slipchenko and Evgeniy Melnikov were detained in Rostov-on-Don on charges of disorderly conduct (minor hooliganism), and on November 12 for "using obscene language in the yard on the house in Yaroslav Galan Street" they were sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest each.

The protesters came out with posters quoting the Bible: "For with what judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged (St Matthew, 7:2)", "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour (Exodus, 20:16)", "Why have you stolen 10 days of freedom from Maxim Slipchenko and Evgeniy Melnikov?" and other of similar sort.

"In general, law enforcers didn't put obstacles; while, however, trying to exert pressure: asking and demanding, threatening to deliver somewhere, asking to go with them for explanations, photographing the posters for checking the texts for extremism," said the organizers of solo pickets.
