Physicians of local outpatients' clinics in Astrakhan region detained for suspicion of bribery

The police in Astrakhan region carried out a series of detentions of persons suspected of bribe-taking in health care institutions.

According to the Department of the Ministry of Interior Affairs in Astrakhan region (DMIA), during operational search actions Operative search unit No 1 of DMIA of Russia in the region discovered the fact of receiving illegal payment by manager of traumatology and orthopedic unit of one of the outpatient's clinics of Astrakhan. It was a resident of Astrakhan born in 1955 who had no criminal record before.

The police personnel state that he demanded money for giving out a case record to an out-patient but was caught red-handed by the personnel of the Ministry of Interior Affairs at the moment of taking the bribe. A criminal case was initiated against the physician. During investigation he made confessionary statements.

Besides, during joint operational search actions the personnel of Operative search unit No 1 and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police unit No 2 detained an otolaryngologist of one of the outpatients' clinics of Lenin district at the moment of taking a bribe in his doctor's office.

Officials of CID state that the physician demanded money for giving out a sick-list. A criminal case was also initiated against this resident of Astrakhan born in 1952 who had no criminal record before, "Astrakhan FM" reports.

In Ikryaninsky district of Astrakhan region the personnel of Department of economic security and struggle against corruption detained a fifty-years-old manager of an outpatients' clinic. During operational search actions the policemen established that the surgeon who was also manager of the outpatients' clinic demanded illegal fee from a patient for giving out a knowingly forged sick-list.

"The woman opened an outpatient's card for the person making a knowingly forged record of an imaginary disease, the Ministry of Interior Affairs reports. - She was detained by the policemen at the moment of receiving the money. A criminal case was initiated on the fact of bribe-taking by an official of a municipal health care institution. The detained woman has made confessionary statements".

According to Mikhail Karygin, official of Department of information and public relations of CID of Russia in Astrakhan region, the physicians may get a penalty in form of at least a fine multiple of 20-25 sum of the bribe and deprivation of a right of holding certain offices for up to three-years term and at worst custody up to three years term and a fine multiple of 20 sum of the bribe.
