Court extends arrest of athlete from Dagestan Rasul Mirzaev until December 17

The Presnya District Court of Moscow has left the four times world champion in ultimate fighting from Dagestan Rasul Mirzaev suspected of beating the student of Ivan Agafonov, 19, to death, in custody, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the courtroom.

Let us remind you that initially Mirzaev was released on bail of five million roubles; however, on August 24, the court decided to keep him behind bars. On August 29, Mirzaev's advocate filed a cassation appeal with the Moscow City Court against the decision of the Zamoskvoretsky Court, which had put him in custody. On August 30, the court accepted the complaint for consideration and subsequently upheld the decision to arrest Mirzaev.

The investigation has sought to extend his arrest for two reasons: since the investigation of the criminal case was extended, and as there were no grounds to release Mirzaev. "There are no grounds to release Mirzaev, as the circumstances of his arrest have not changed," said the investigator, who ran the case.

The defence believes, in its turn, that there were no reasons to arrest Mirzaev. "There were and there are no grounds," Alexei Grebenskoy, the champion's advocate, said at the trial.

The court has supported the investigation and left Rasul Mirzaev in custody until December 17.
