Detainee dies from beatings in investigatory division of Cherkessk

In the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), a 47-year-old local resident, detained for 10 days, has died in the investigatory division. According to preliminary results of the forensic examination, his death was a result of bodily injuries.

The resident of the Prekuban District of the KChR was detained by a district policeman on October 7 in Kosmonavtov Street of the city of Cherkessk. Officially, the reason for detention was that the man was drunk and under the influence of drugs.

"The policeman drew up a report about the offence; and the magistrate judge appointed the punishment in the form of a 10-day arrest. According to the inquiry, which was conducted by the investigatory division for Cherkessk of the Department for the KChR of the ICRF (Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation); after the court's decision, the detainee was handed over to employees of the criminal search of the division for Cherkessk of the Russian MIA (Ministry of Internal Affairs) for placement into the IVS (temporary detention facility)," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the MIA of the KChR.

On the same day, at 1:30 p.m. Moscow time, the Cherkessk investigatory division of the ICRF received a report that the detainee had died in the building of the MIA's division. The forensic examination showed that death was caused by beatings," the "Interfax" reports.

Currently, the investigatory division has initiated a criminal case on intentional infliction of serious harm that resulted in victim's death by negligence. The MIA of the KChR is conducting a service check, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
