Director of Georgian TV Company asks for political asylum in France

Djoni Nanetashvili, the founder and director of the Georgian TV Company "Trialeti", has addressed President of France Nicolas Sarkozy for political asylum.

He sent as respective application to Eric Fournier, French Ambassador in Georgia.

"I'm sure that the pressure on me and my TV Company is executed by senior officials of the Georgian state and, possibly, under the President's order. In the context of all that, my life is under threat, and my family is in danger; therefore I ask for political asylum," the GHN quotes Mr Nanetashvili's application.

The director of the "Trialeti" claims that he was forced to sell his TV Company, as the authorities do not like its editorial policy, "based on the freedom of speech."

Djoni Nanetashvili received a notice from an official of the French Embassy in Georgia that his application for political asylum would be transferred to Nicolas Sarkozy, the "Georgia Online" reports.
