Residents of Dubovka District, Volgograd Region, demand to stop pressing students
In Dubovka, Volgograd Region, about 50 local activists held a rally in defence of students. The picketers accused the district administration of putting pressure on the students, who participated in protest actions.
Dissatisfaction of the protesters was caused by the official refusal to pay scholarships to students of the Dubovka Veterinary College, who took part in protest actions on September 20 against the policy of the Governor Anatoly Brovko.
The protesters demand to end "repressions" against students. The participants of the rally unfolded the banners "We'll not give our kids to mercy of bureaucrats!", "Brovko failed his exam in Dubovka" and "Klochkov, what are you doing?", the "Volga Information Website" reports.
"To intimidate students, they made use of all their administrative resources; they threaten to expel students from the College; while law enforcers are putting pressure on young people, threatening in future to disperse protests by means of OMON (riot police) fighters. But our actions are legitimate, and we are not afraid of anybody," the IA "Height-102" quotes Anatoly Beev, one of the protesters.
So far, there are no official responses to protesters' demands from the college administration and authorities of the Dubovka District.
