One of the defendants on the case of an assault at Nalchik went on a hunger strike

Husein Khubolov, one of the defendants on the case of an assault at Nalchik went on a hunger strike. This became known at a next scheduled trial.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that hearings in the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria recommenced on September, 19, after a three months' interval.

Khubolov's attorney Alim Bittirov entered a motion of calling a physician to his client who according to him was on a hunger strike for already the fourth day and was feeling bad. The defendant himself explained that the reason for the hunger strike was his unlawful placement in a lock-up. Besides, according to the attorney, Khubolov got ill with tuberculosis and was receiving no respective medical aid.

The court granted the attorney's motion of calling a physician from a medical and sanitary unit of the investigative isolation ward. The physician examined the patient and arrived at a conclusion that he was able to participate in the trial.

Besides, a number of witnesses were interrogated during this session.

Resident of the settlement of Kenzhe Anuar Baragunov, brother of one of the defendants, said that in the morning of October, 13, 2005, his brother Atmir Baragunov left home and did not come back.

The family searched for Atmir Baragunov everywhere, including hospitals, the morgue and militia, but in vain. Atmir Baragunov returned home on October, 16, with a wounding in his head. He told his relatives that he was "carried away somewhere" and "someone shot" in his head. He stated that he himself had never assaulted anyone or shot at anybody. He also said he was ready to surrender to the authorities. While his wound was closing up Baragunov stayed at home. According to an eyewitness, militiamen came to search for him every day but his relatives replied that they knew nothing about him.

In February, 2006, Baragunov and his brother went to militia department. "I came on my own will because I already was there on October, 13", Atmir Baragunov said at the moment of his voluntary surrender.

Anuar Baragunov said referring to his brother that he was wounded by some of "their people" just when he wanted to lay down arms he had been given and run away from the site of the gunmen's assault at the objects of power-wielding structures.
