Alan Kochiev is the first to get nominated for presidential election in South Ossetia

On September 2, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of South Ossetia received the first package of documents about nomination of a presidential candidate, which was submitted by supporters of Alan Kochiev, who is now in custody on suspicion of beating a deputy.

On August 19, the law enforcement bodies detained Alan Kochiev, the leader of the South-Ossetian political movement "Rukhs Fidan" (Bright Future), suspected of beating Alik Pliev, and MP of South Ossetia from the People's Party.

According to investigators, Kochiev and his helpers beat Pliev near his house because of the latter's attitude to Kochiev's nomination for presidency. On August 19, the General Public Prosecutor of South Ossetia Taimuraz Khugaev assured that the case has no political overtones; however, on August 23, a protest against Kochiev's detention was held in Tskhinvali.

The initiative group of citizens, standing for nomination of Alan Kochiev as a presidential candidate of the republic, has decided to be the first to submit documents to the CEC. This was stated on September 2 by Bella Plieva, the CEC Chairperson. "The initiative group for nomination of Alan Kochiev has submitted a package of documents that we have to consider within five days," the IA "Res" quotes the CEC Chair as saying.
