Eviction of residents of Russian enclave from Azerbaijan to Dagestan suspended

Today is the deadline of the three-month period, which was provided by the Azerbaijani party to residents of the villages of Khrakh-Uba and Uryan-Uba for making their decision: either to get legalized in Azerbaijan or to move to Dagestan. Forced deportation was avoided after the talks of the leader of Dagestan Magomedsalam Magomedov and First Vice-Premier of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyubov.

In the near future, Russia will launch a federal target programme for resettling the enclave residents to Dagestan. Magomedsalam Magomedov has asked the Azerbaijani authorities to suspend the eviction of residents of the two villages until the start of the programme.

Earlier, the Azerbaijani party offered several possible solutions to the problem: temporary or permanent registration in the territory of the Azerbaijani Republic (in this case Russian citizens lost their right to own and command the land, on which their property was located, as under the Azerbaijani legislation foreign citizens cannot possess land); adoption of the Azerbaijani citizenship without giving up Russian one, and sale of houses and property and move to Russia.

"Most of the residents were willing to move to Dagestan, but they were not happy with the amount of compensation offered by the Azerbaijani party," Eduard Khidirov, a Deputy of the People's Assembly of Dagestan and the head of the faction "Patriots of Russia", who was elected as the villagers' representatives for talks with the Azerbaijani party, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
