The authorities and opposition in Armenia do not comment on the results of discussing detention of ANC activists

Today the fifth meeting between the ruling coalition and Armenian National Congress was held. The leaders of the delegations refused to answer the journalists’ questions explaining that the discussion of the incident of August, 9, between the police and ANC activists would be continued at the next meeting, August, 19.

The meeting started at noon and lasted about two hours. The incident that took place in the evening of August, 9, between the police and seven representatives of the youth branch of ANC was discussed at the meeting.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that seven young activists of the oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) were detained in the evening of August, 9, in the center of Yerevan. The reason for detention was their confrontation with representatives of law enforcement bodies. Lawyers Ovsepyan and Voskanyan who acted as the oppositionists’ attorneys declared that law enforcement officers in the police office put obstacles in their work. At the trial on August, 13, four out of those detained were arrested and three released. On August, 15, Arman Musinyan declared that ANC was giving the authorities 24 hours time to release the arrested activists.

“We achieved preliminary agreement to continue the discussion on Friday, August, 19”, the leaders of the delegations David Arutiunyan and Levon Zurabyan declared refusing to answer the journalists’ questions.

Press secretary of Armenian National Congress Arman Musinyan also refused to give any explanations to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent on this round of negotiation just saying again that the discussion would be continued on August, 19.
