Attorney: physical pressure was used against the defendants on the case of “Urvan jama'at”

During preliminary investigation measures of physical pressure were used against the defendants on the case of “Urvan jama'at” which they are going to declare in court, attorney of one of the defendants Tatiana Psomiadi told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

On July, 26, the court started interrogation of the witnesses for the prosecution on this case within the framework of which eight residents of Kabardino-Balkaria are accused of participation in a paramilitary group. Hearing of the first witnesses showed that the evidence they produced in court differed from the information they reported during preliminary investigation.

According to Tatiana Psomiadi acting for defendant Rustam Zhilov, 17 witnesses were interrogated at the trial on the case of “Urvan jama'at” in North-Caucasian military district court of Rostov-on-Don during only one day.

“There remain not so many witnesses who have not yet been interrogated and probably after the break announced till August, 4, the court will start interrogation of the defendants”, she presumes.

In the attorney’s opinion, if the defendants’ guilt of the actions incriminated to them is proven “it will be an ordinary criminal case having no connection with religious extremism”.

There are eight figurants, residents of Kabardino-Balkaria, on the case of “Urvan jama'at”: Alim Khubiev, Anzor Bogotov, Muhamed Shogenov, Roman Sokhov, Amir Isakov, Rustam Karanashev, Rustam Zhilov and Alim Bitokhov.
